James Washington Nearing All-Time OSU Receiving Records

Published

on

As the first half of the season comes to a close and OSU sits with a 4-2 record at the midway point, it’s time to look at a few projections for the rest of the year. After notching another eight catches for 152 yards and two TDs on Saturday, James Washington is tracking for a fairly historic season. Only four wide receivers (Hart Lee, Dez, Blackmon twice and Rashaun) have ever had 1,400 receiving yards in a season which is where No. 28 is headed after racking up 731 through the first six games of 2016.

What’s more is that he’s also sneaking up on some all-time OSU records.

Career receptions: No. 10
  1. Rashaun Woods (293)
  2. Justin Blackmon (253)
  3. Hart Lee Dykes (224)
  4. Josh Stewart (180)
  5. D’Juan Woods (163)
  6. Josh Cooper (161)
  7. Dez Bryant (147)
  8. Tracy Moore (144)
  9. Adarius Bowman (127)
  10. James Washington (117)

D’Juan’s total should come with a multiplier given some of the QBs he played with. Same for Hart Lee since OSU threw it like 18 times a game in the 1980s.

Career TD: No. 5
  1. Rashaun Woods (42)
  2. Justin Blackmon (40)
  3. Hart Lee Dykes (31)
  4. Dez Bryant (29)
  5. James Washington (22)

It’s insane to me that Dez had 29 TDs in basically 2.25 seasons. He had 19 (!!) his sophomore year.

Career yards: No. 6
  1. Rashaun Woods (4,414)
  2. Justin Blackmon (3,564)
  3. Hart Lee Dykes (3,510)
  4. D’Juan Woods (2,751)
  5. Dez Bryant (2,425)
  6. James Washington (2,274)

Let’s say he gets 500 the rest of this season (a conservative estimate). He would need another 1,000 his senior season to jump into second all time. Certainly doable. I’m not sure he’s going to be able to touch Rashaun though.

100-yard receiving games: No. 5
  1. Rashaun Woods (20)
  2. Justin Blackmon (19)
  3. Hart Lee Dykes (18)
  4. Dez Bryant (9)
  5. James Washington (8)

A reminder that Justin Blackmon had 14 consecutive 100-yard receiving games. The next closest streak is Rashaun with five.

Yards per catch: No. 1
  1. James Washington (19.4)
  2. Adarius Bowman (17.22)
  3. Curtis Mayfield (16.98
  4. D’Juan Woods (16.88)
  5. Herman Eben (16.51)
  6. Dez Bryant (16.50)

This is the most impressive thing to me. You can make a legitimate and well-reasoned argument that James Washington is the best deep threat OSU has ever had. He came in averaging just over 19 yards per catch in his career and that number has somehow gone up despite everyone west of the Mississippi knowing what Mason Rudolph and James Washington are going to do. Vote 28 in 2016. Amazing.
