Justice Hill One of Four Big 12 RBs Over 100 Yards Per Game

Published

on

All five of Justice Hill’s freshman record 100-yard rushing performances have come against Big 12 teams. He broke Thurman Thomas’ true freshman yardage record last weekend and will take aim at the all-time record of 961 yards held by Mike Hamilton in Bedlam and the bowl game. He’s already at 943 yards so getting there (and beyond to 1,000) should not be an issue.

It goes deeper than that, though. Not only is Justice re-writing the Oklahoma State books, but he has also been one of the three or four best RBs in the entire conference with just one Big 12 game left to go. Here’s a look at the top rushers in yards per game in conference games only.

Whoo boy. Foreman, Mixon and Hill are your top three Big 12 RBs so far. Now, I’ll listen to arguments for Justin Crawford of West Virginia because he’s averaging nearly nine yards a pop, but get back to me when he hits the 100 or 120-carry mark. Part of being a great RB is shouldering a heavy load.

“I’m very proud of our running backs, the way they’re running,” said Mike Gundy on Saturday. “Thankfully we have evolved, and we can run the ball pretty well now.”

“Pretty well” is an understatement.

The Chris Carson-Justice Hill combo is averaging nearly 180 yards per game in Big 12 games (note that Carson did not play all eight Big 12 games). Compare that to last year when the entire team averaged 127 yards on the ground, and you can see why everyone is so bullish on another Bedlam win.
