Larry Fedora, North Carolina Trying to Flip OSU Quarterback Recruit

The headliner of OSU’s 2017 recruiting class is being targeted by Larry Fedora and the North Carolina coaching staff. Jelani Woods, the 6-foot-7 quarterback from Ellenwood, Georgia, has been committed to the Cowboys since spring of this year with no wavering in his pledge, but circumstances around North Carolina, likely the possibility of preparing to lose their starting QB Mitch Trubisky to the NFL, have had them change their tone and target Woods.

The Tar Heels have a No. 26 class ranking for 2017 according to 247sports, but they are without a quarterback. Here’s what Rivals.com reporter Woody Wommack said about their situation at QB:

Originally it looked as if the Tar Heels were going to pass on taking a quarterback for this cycle, especially since they landed two four-star prospects in the class of 2016. However, things have changed quickly and now the school is targeting some committed prospects, including Oklahoma State commit Jelani Woods and Florida State commit Bailey Hockman.

Woods has said recently that he plans to enroll early at OSU, and as far as I am aware, North Carolina has not extended a scholarship offer — at least not yet. But with North Carolina, a school that is much closer geographically, trying to jump into the picture this late in the game, it could be a factor and a situation to be aware of.

My guess though? He’s Oklahoma State bound in January.
