Marcus Smart Did a Flying Double Flop Against the Hawks, Got Fined $5K
Marcus Smart’s flopping has become an art form at this point. I’ve begun to ask myself what is possible when Smart takes the floor. What are the limits? Can he throw himself into the stands? Out of the stadium?
On Friday night, he tried to do both it seemed with this flying double flop against the Atlanta Hawks.

Smart added 11 points, three boards, five assists and two blocks to his incredible flop in 33 minutes. And this sort of underscores what is so infuriating about Smart’s antics. He does so many things well that smart people (and all basketball fans) appreciate. He hustles his balls off, plays unbelievable defense and is one of the more underrated passers in OSU history.
So why this? It is the opposite of smart. It turns off fans, opponents and (more importantly) teammates and referees. It is accomplishing the opposite of what he wants it to accomplish. I’m not the only one who says this either.
I like Marcus Smart a lot. But his flopping makes it hard to. https://t.co/QMV3MnbWiI

Now he’s set this sort of bar for himself that he’s going to have to have a pretty great career to clear. Smart, despite his immense talent, is known for his flops. That’s unfortunate, but it can be corrected. I just hope he’s wise enough to do it.
Boston’s Marcus Smart fined $5,000 for violating NBA’s anti-flopping rules during Game 3 vs. Atlanta.
