Mason Rudolph Says He ‘Could Care Less’ What Baker Mayfield is Doing

Spring camp at OSU is in full swing and the mood around the program could be best summed up as optimistic. The offense has drawn comparisons to the 2011 team by Mike Gundy himself, who seems to know something we don’t about his defense.

In an article from ESPN’s Jake Trotter, Mason Rudolph reflected on that rainy day in Norman last December when he turned out the worst statistical game of his career.

Here’s an excerpt.

“For whatever reason, didn’t throw the ball as well that day,” said Rudolph, who noted he wished the Cowboys would’ve “taken a lot more down-the-field shots,” despite the rain.

We feel you, Mason.

Rudolph also talked about the chance for one last crack at in-state rival and off-the-field friend, Baker Mayfield.

“But I’m a great quarterback,” Rudolph told ESPN “and I think I do a lot of things that he [Mayfield] can’t do. And he scrambles around and shows the athleticism that I can’t always do. We’re two different players on two different teams in two different situations. All I can do is control myself.

“I could care less about what he’s doing. I’m trying to take care of my business and put my guys in a great position to win. That’s all I can do.”

I like this confident side of QB1. Not that he hasn’t always been confident but I don’t believe I’ve heard him refer to himself as “great” before.

By the way, he is great. If he stays healthy, Rudolph is set to demolish pretty much every quarterback record at OSU this fall.

But his number one goal is a Big 12 title.

“Our whole mantra has been to finish this thing right with a Big 12 title and see where that sets us up for. Bedlam, it’s going to be a big part.”
