Miketavius Jones One of Biggest Surprises This Season
The sheer depth at the cornerback position was a well-known commodity going into this season, but the emergence of cornerback Miketavius Jones has been as big a surprise as any this season.
Jones has been a special teams mainstay during his time in Stillwater, and his experience has prepared him well to boost him to his early season success. Gundy talked on his radio show this week about his center of balance skills being well sharpened after playing special teams, which has allowed him to excel in his new hybrid type role at cornerback. Last week, he was able to hunt down the quarterback to force the first turnover of many against UTSA.

And this week, Spencer dialed up a blitz that put Jones in position to make a play. Despite Heard’s slipperiness, Jones stuck with him and dragged him down for a 22-yard sack.

Jones’ experience on special teams can’t be overstated, and his impact through four games has been felt as strong as any other cornerback on the roster. He has showed up in big moments; none bigger than Saturday’s sack of Jerrod Heard. It’s still very early in the season, but Jones’ emergence in a very deep group of cornerbacks is one of the most fascinating storylines of the season.
