Mitt Romney Is Now Involved In Big 12 Expansion

Published

on

Another day in the Big 12, another former presidential candidate reaches out to a billionaire who helped build one of the teams in your conference to offer his opinion on the school he attended as that school’s power broker. You know, the usual.

Mitt Romney apparently called Boone Pickens to chat about the future of the Big 12. Here’s Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman

Bob Bowlsby remains very mum about the process that could lead to Big 12 expansion, but one Big 12 school official said 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has called power brokers, including Oklahoma State’s T. Boone Pickens, lobbying for support for BYU to join the conference.

Romney is a BYU grad. Bowlsby said there are fewer than 20 interested candidates as has been reported, but declined to say if any Power 5 conference schools have expressed interest. He’s almost done going through applicants’ one-hour video presentations and has had “several calls” with Big 12 presidents to update them.

Weeee! Mitt Romney and Boone Pickens planning the Big 12’s future. What a freaking world we live in. That is just incredible. Go back to 1994 and tell yourself that the best GOP candidate in a 10-year span would be trying to coerce Oklahoma State’s primary benefactor to let his own university into a conference that for some reason also includes West Virginia. That is just outrageous and incredible.

Also, it seems like there might be ulterior motives here! Is Mitt Romney an undercover secret agent for the SEC trying to destroy the Big 12 from within? My column:

Oh and here’s a live look at the Big 12 right now.

Finally, if you haven’t watched the Mitt documentary, you should. Political affiliation not required. I didn’t vote for him, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
