Notebook: Oklahoma State-Baylor
I had five thoughts on Tuesday’s contest, which you can read right here. All the leftover notes and thoughts from the game are right here. Let me know your thoughts on the game in the comments! (Keep it PG-13)
- Leyton Hammonds getting into foul trouble is detrimental for the Cowboys. I’ve probably complained too much about his inconsistency on offense this season, but we didn’t even get much of a chance to see him in the second half thanks to foul trouble.
- Tavarius Shine isn’t the same shooter he was last year. I know he’s been battling injury, but if he can get his shot back his deep threat would be huge for this offense that is struggling to find production.
- Baylor is simply out-OSU-ing OSU. Better defense, more aggressive, all attack no hesitation. Not sure if Baylor’s defense is that much better, or our offense makes their defense look amazing.
- True…

- I get that Jeff Carroll loves the deep ball, but he’s at his best when he’s attacking…
- Rico Gathers is a rich man’s Anthony Allen. Soft touch from outside, knows his way around the paint and can finish down low, and nearly outrebounded our entire team.
- OSU didn’t start bad (per se), but Baylor was HOT in the first half…
Bears up to 67 percent shooting. Everything seemingly going in. 3s. Hooks. Scoops. Pokes at 50 percent, yet down 33-16, with six TOs

- OSU’s lack of size and inability to rebound will be the biggest weakness in conference play
- Jawun Evans sees everything
- Markel Brown lost bragging rights…
Looking forward to having bragging rights over @CoryJay34 & @BaylorMBB when my @OSUMBB Cowboys get this W. #GoPokes

- They need to practice their offense more
- Jawun Evans is the energizer bunny
- The “scratch and claw” Travis Ford signature defense gets OSU into trouble with over pursuit, and Baylor consistently took advantage of it
- I’m watching this game on my phone..from Starbucks..in Tulsa
- Not quite accurate, but maybe close? *favorites for future reference*
I am fully prepared to go 0-18 in conference.

- Even ending the first half on an 11-5 run, they still went into the break down 12.
- Newberry loves the 15-footer, which is statistically like the worst shot in basketball right? Back up a few steps boss!
- I understand hustle fouls, but if you’re Leyton Hammonds, one of the most valuable players for OSU, you have to be more aware of your foul situation.
Four fouls on Leyton Hammonds with 15:49 to play.

- Chris Olivier got that old man game. He’s slow, predictable, but he knows his way around down low. So far, he seems to be more effective down low than Mitch in the scoring department. But he can’t jump… at all.
- Not a great stat…. and this was with 8:00 remaining in the second half.
Baylor has more offensive rebounds (17) than #OKstate has total rebounds (16). That makes it hard to come back.

- …another Tavarius Shine brick… Baylor up 12 on 9-0 run
- Just when the Cowboys cut it to 3, Baylor takes a 13-0 lead… just like Travis drew it up.
- “No movement on offense. I love OU play” — real text from my Dad
- Jeff Carroll randomly destroyed Rico Gathers…
