Notebook: Oklahoma State-Kansas

Five thoughts are here. Court storm is here. Let’s move on to some leftover notes I had from a wild night inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

• There is no rush the court debate. You have one Big 12 win and just housed the No. 3 team in the country because your freshman point guard destroyed their All-Big 12 point guard over and over again. You pound the white maple as much as you want.

• At some point in the second half, I wrote this: Mason has no clue with Evans. None. Zero.

• I loved Self going two-for-one at the end of the first half. Why do more coaches not do that? Is math that hard? [erases a couple of podcasts]

• Evans led Oklahoma State and Kansas in points, rebounds, assists and steals on Tuesday night. I wonder how many times that’s ever happened.

• Carson and I are in too deep.

• Is college basketball … gasp … fun again? Carson and I talked about this on the podcast today (which I have yet to post), but OU and Kansas and Iowa State and West Virginia are fun to watch. Throw Jawun Evans in there and this game tonight was legitimately enjoyable. I’m projecting, aren’t I?

• And this wasn’t even the best pass in the game.

• This was.

• Be wary, Bill.

• The film session with Ford, Evans and Miles Simon was spectacular and hilarious.

• How about we don’t have Evans throw inbounds passes? Has there ever been a greater disparity between passing ability and inbounds passing ability?

• Should have mentioned this elsewhere, but I thought Jeff Newberry was terrific on Tuesday. He did a bunch of Jeff Newberry things, hit a three, played defense and hammered home some dunks. It was pretty outstanding.

• Saying “Olivier is not the best athlete on the floor” is like saying my two-year-old daughter is “not the best speller in our house.”

• I almost cried laughing at this.

• Jawun Evans is OSU’s best passing point guard (on non-inbounds passes) since … ? Doug? Eaton? Smart? It’s a two horse race in conference play for the assist title between Evans and Baylor’s Lester Medford.

• I want to buy this dude a beer.

• Perry Ellis jokes are the opposite of the Crying Jordan meme for me. Never get old.

• There’s going to be a 30 for 30 someday on Bill Self’s record inside GIA. It’s completely confounding. Kansas has lost five of seven and they have been ranked in the top eight for the last three!

• This was pretty easily the best part of the game.

• The fouls down low away from the ball are silliness. Unless they’re punching each other, let them do whatever they want.

• Haha!

• Arena status: not great! This was during the game (although a 6P tip doesn’t help).

• Is there a trend of basketball players rolling their shorts up that I missed along the way? Jawun Evans certainly does it. This was my uniform observation from tonight. Also the blue on gray looked cool, but blue on orange would have looked even better.

• It almost sounds like he feels sorry for us.

• All the Perry Ellis jokes.

• This is great. Good for him. Good for his team.
