Ogbah Had No Idea the Browns Wanted Him, Says Biggest Transition is Money

Emmanuel Ogbah summed it up nicely for all of us on Friday after he was taken with the No. 32 pick in the NFL Draft.

“I had no idea I was going to be a Cleveland Brown,” Ogbah told ClevelandBrowns.com. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ogbah didn’t meet with the Browns during the lead up to the Draft.

In the end, No. 38 was too difficult to pass on.

“We had a first-round grade on him so we were hopeful and really pleased leaving last night that he sat there waiting on us,” VP Sashi Brown said. “And we had some debate today about whether or not we trade out and frankly the player was just too good to pass up on any other opportunities that were there. We actually thought he could go as early as middle of the first round …”

“The guy’s 6-foot-4 and he’s 275 pounds and has 4.6 speed. He’s had 24 sacks in the last two years,” head coach Hue Jackson said. “That was the best guy sitting there and he was too good to pass up. So this guy brings a dynamic on defense.”

Here’s Ogbah getting that first call from his new defensive coordinator.

“I will play whatever position the Cleveland Browns want me to play,” Ogbah said on a conference call. “I will rush standing up. I will rush with my hands on the ground. Whatever they want me to do, I will do it.”

He added that it’s not the football part that worries him.

“The biggest part about transitioning to the NFL will just be having all that money,” said Ogbah. “I’ve never had that money before so I don’t know what I will be able to do with it. Also, learning how to say no. That’s what a lot of vets tell me.”

It was cool to see Ogbah go in the first 32 picks. It was not cool to see him go to Cleveland. Here are my extended thoughts on the whole thing.
