Oklahoma State Moves up Five Spots to No. 13 in College Football Playoff Rankings

The second week of the college football playoffs have come and gone, and Oklahoma State was among the biggest movers this week on the dramatic reveal aired on ESPN. Both Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State were the biggest movers, jumping up five spots from the first rankings release. USC also made a big move in the rankings, going from unranked a week ago to No. 20 this week. Here are the full week two rankings:

Although the Cowboys moved up to 13th in the rankings, which is good for second in the conference, talking head Kirk Herbstreit basically ignored OSU in the release show. He instead pointed to Oklahoma and West Virginia (you know, the Mountaineers team that got thumped in Stillwater two weeks ago), as the two Big 12 teams he was most interested in.

It’s slightly embarassing that Herbstreit hasn’t done his weekly reading of Pistols Firing, which would have told him that the only two teams who control their own destiny in the conference is Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

The end of the season is now less than a month away for OSU, with several big games left on the schedule to impress the committee. That starts this weekend against Texas Tech, and crescendos in difficulty with tough road tests to close out the season in Fort Worth and in Norman. For Oklahoma State, they remain within striking distance, although a shot to land in the final four would require some serious help.

Regardless, the Cowboys biggest games remain on the schedule. And sitting at No. 13 may be exactly where Mike Gundy wants to be at this point in the process.
