Oklahoma State snags QB for 2014
OSU gets a nice consolation prize after losing out on the Kyle Allen sweepstakes.
My heart rate rarely ever increases much during recruiting season but I must admit I do get a bit excited about trying to figure out what the future looks like at QB in Stillwater.
On Wednesday that future took a bit of a turn as OSU nabbed Mason Rudolph[1. I will likely call him Mason Plumlee until he’s a junior — and how mad is Mason Cox that as of December he will no longer be the most famous athlete named Mason at OSU?] who is a top 50 QB out of South Carolina. He threw for 4,100 and 41 TDs last year so he should fit in nicely to the O.
Here’s what he tweeted out:

Rudolph chose OSU over Va. Tech, Ole Miss, LSU, and Louisville (screw you, Louisville). He also said that he will enter school in December.
Here’s a look at where various recruiting sites had him ranked among pro-style QBs:
ESPN – 8
247 – 22
Rivals – 17
It’s intriguing that Rudolph is a 6’4, 190 lb. drop-back passer as many posited after Wes Lunt skipped town that Mike Yurcich was going to run it all the time with his QBs.[2. Should note that @carsonc5 said this on Twitter as well.] He can run it a little as you can see in the video above but he’s certainly no J.W. Walsh.
The other intriguing thing is what OSU does about David Cornwell now. Cornwell is a top-five pro-style QB (ESPN has him at No. 1) out of Norman who OSU was also pursuing. My guess is that Cornwell goes elsewhere now — everybody watched how the three-headed QB thing worked out under Gundy this spring. Plus he has offers from Bama, ND, Tennessee, and Auburn. And again…Bama.
Back to Rudolph though. He’s a a nice consolation prize for Gundy after losing out on the Kyle Allen sweepstakes (Allen was the No. 1 pro-style QB on Rivals) to (apparently) the greatest recruiter in the history of college football, Kevin Sumlin earlier this week.
Again, the dude’s 18. He’s not even a senior in high school yet. It’s great that he’s committed to OSU and all but come talk to me in three years when he’s throwing dimes against Iowa State in a game that means something.
Also, this was funny:
That new QB recruit looks like @Cchelf10 coincidence? I think not…
