Oklahoma State’s 2017 Class Ranked No. 15 Nationally

It’s one thing for Ohio State, Oklahoma and other blue blood schools to find success on the recruiting trail. Those schools (sort of) recruit themselves sometimes.

But Oklahoma State, a program that has typically struggled recruiting, is finding big success early on in the 2017 class.

Since 2014, the national ranking by class has slowly decreased each year. The Cowboys class of ’14 came in at No. 28, and fell to No. 39 in 2015, and down again to No. 44 in 2016.

But the success early in this cycle is somewhat of a surprise. With the commitment of four-star running back Chuba Hubbard on Sunday, Oklahoma State is now ranked No. 15 nationally by 247sports.

Here’s what Ryan Simmons said about that:

Most notably, OSU ranks ahead of LSU (16), Texas (23), Baylor (33), TexasA&M (43), Ole Miss (45), and others. The No. 15 national ranking is also second best in the Big 12, behind the Sooners (No. 2).

Oklahoma State has 10 commitments in the 2017 class. The highest rated prospect is four-star receiver Tylan Wallace, followed by new commitment running back Chuba Hubbard.

It’s still very early in the process, however. Typically the blueblood programs tend to close well – something Gundy and his staff have struggled with, either due to coaching turnover or other programs raiding the cupboard.

The last top 25 class for OSU came in 2011, when it came in at No. 25 and headlined with J.W. Walsh, Josh Stewart, Herschel Sims, Ryan Simmons, Jimmy Bean, and more. Mike Gundy has never had a top 15 class, but he’s sure off to a hot start in 2017.
