Oklahoma State’s Resilience Shines Through

Published

Oklahoma State has suddenly built itself into your neighborhood curmudgeon who only drinks black coffee and won’t watch anything that doesn’t include John Wayne in the credits. In the Pokes’ case, it’s wins and big boy drives instead of caffeinated beverages and old westerns.

“I just think we’re resilient,” Jordan Sterns told the O’Colly. “No matter what happens, no matter how much we’re down by. Maybe 17, 20, 14, we’re always looking for that next drive to make a play. The offense has definitely been doing their job. All we’ve got to do is get the ball in their hands and from there we score points.”

I posited this theory at the end of October. I have to admit, it was more wishful thinking than anything. Somehow, this team has turned that idea into a reality.

“I think as the year goes on we continue to take steps and we have this experience and these scenarios, like Texas Tech, at Texas we fell behind, West Virginia was a tight one,” Mason Rudolph told Go Pokes. “We’ve been in this situations and we don’t fluster ourselves, we just stay grounded, we keep fighting and we ended up on top.”

Having The General helps.

“You don’t win without having some maturity and a relentless football team and we’ve been able to attain those things very well,” J.W. Walsh told the AP. “There was not a doubt in anyone’s mind. You could see it in everybody’s eyes.”

Oh there was a lot of doubt. I was sipping on doubt the entire first half and guzzled a big jug of it at halftime. Thankfully, I’m writing and not throwing passes and making tackles. And it truly seems as if this intangible, immeasurable thing called self-belief has manifested itself in the way of a 10-win season. I genuinely believe OSU thinks you could line up a Bama-Ohio State all-star team, let it rip and the Cowboys would come out on top. That’s up there with the best characteristics a team can possibly possess.

“Our team is unbelievable,” added Walsh. “It’s not just the leaders who say, ‘Hey, we’ve got a chance. We’re in this thing.’ It’s everybody. The whole team believes.”

Two more.

Perfection.

Believe.
