OSU Falls to No. 1 Florida 5-0
After a holding the No. 1 Florida Gators scoreless earlier on Sunday, the Cowgirls ran out of steam to the tune of a 5-0 loss. Florida wins the Gainesville Regional and will host a Super Regional against the winner of the Tuscaloosa Regional.
After being held scoreless in the first game of the day, Florida’s Nicole Dewitt opened the game with a two-run homer in the 1st. After runs in the 2nd and the 3rd innings, the Gators built a 4-0 lead through four innings and the Cowgirls were never able to get their bats going — thanks in part to Florida’s ace Delanie Gourney.
On the other side, Florida’s early hitting necessitated two pitching changes by the 2nd inning. Shea Coats and Logan Simunek each had their shot before Kenny Gajewski went back to Brandi Needham who pitched seven innings earlier in the day.
Oklahoma State ends their season 38-25 and makes postseason play in both of Gajewski’s first two season as head coach.
“Going to the postseason consecutive years just means we have a lot of kids bought in,” head coach Kenny Gajewski said. ” That’s the bottom line. They have trust in us. When you have that kind of trust you can do anything. This program is back on track. We’ve still got a long way to go but we’re excited about the future.”
