OSU RB Coach Recruiting Top Target in Texas on Cinco de Mayo

Everyone has different ways of celebrating Cinco de Mayo, a day people across America observe to celebrate Mexico’s win over the French back in the 1800s. Some will grab a cerveza COOP Ale Works beverage and propose a toast to our brethren south of us. Some may spend it behind a computer screen deep into the night. But not John Wozniak, OSU’s running back coach.

No, he’s spending his Cinco de Mayo much differently: recruiting Keaontay Ingram, one of the top running backs in the country for 2018.

Ah, yes. That’s dedication. And he’s got good reason to do it, too. Ingram is a four-star recruit in the upcoming 2018 class, nationally ranked as the 222nd best prospect. He produced 2,045 yards on the ground and 29 touchdowns last season, numbers that earned him offers from Florida State, USC, LSU, Oregon Arkansas, Baylor, and a slew of others in the offseason alone.

Ingram, as I noted recently in our Big Board series, is one of OSU’s top targets in the current recruiting cycle. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, he’s got an ideal frame and the production at the high school level to boot. He can do just about everything and his arsenal isn’t limited to just scatback responsibilities, as Scout noted in its scouting report of him recently.

Keaontay Ingram is a well-rounded, long-framed back who can stay on the field all three downs. He’s a unique combination of high frame potential with good close-quarters evasiveness. Ingram is a high-volume, high-production back with great cutback instincts and big-play ability. He’s also an outstanding pass-catcher out of the backfield who can line up as a true receiver if needed. Ingram will be one of the top 2018 running back prospects in Texas. [Scout]

Unfortunately for OSU, his recruitment is watered down with so many suitors. OSU isn’t the only school likely willing to give up their Cinco de Mayo holiday. Texas, considered the favorite according to 247sports, is definitely in the mix. But hey, maybe giving up his Mexican holiday will pay off for Wozniak, who hasn’t yet landed a running back for the 2018 class.
