OU Enters Bedlam With Worst Defense In Recent Memory
Oklahoma State was off, but the Big 12 points per drive numbers still changed because several other teams played. Let’s see where we stand with just one game left for Oklahoma State in the 2016 regular season.
PPD (Offense)
So Bedlam does not feature the two best offenses in the Big 12 after Texas Tech lit Baylor on fire last weekend, but it does feature two of the three best. And if the Texas Tech-OU game was any indication of what we’ll see on Saturday, I’m going to need my heart medicine.
PPD (Defense)
We’re going to talk more about the OU defense momentarily, but two things here. First, OSU’s defense has been better than most people think (and far better than OU’s). Two, look at what OSU’s offense just did to the three best defenses in the Big 12.
OU PPD (Defense)
So … OU’s defense. Let’s talk about it. It is historically bad (at least for the Bob Stoops era). No OU team since 2007 (as far back as we have numbers) has finished worse than 2.0 points per drive given up on defense. This one is staring 2.5 (!) right between the eyes.
The reasons for this are numerous of course. Injuries. Players bailing early. Mike Stoops might stink. But the point remains: This is an OU defense that Oklahoma State will have an opportunity to expose in a big way on Saturday. It will need to, as well, because that OU offense is terrifyingly good.
