Freshmen Who Could Potentially Jump Into Rotation Next Year

Published

on

Kyle did a nice job of breaking down an early two-deep projection for next season and who he anticipates to see most of the reps going into next year.

His projections are logical and accurate, but there are always unknowns who jump off the radar to make impacts as a surprise. Here are a few freshmen I project to break into the rotation next season as impact players for Oklahoma State in 2016.

Justice Hill – Running back

Hill will be a true freshman coming off a monster senior season for Booker T. Washington in which he total 2,088 all-purpose yards to go with 32 touchdowns and over 10 yards per carry. If you watch his film, he’s exactly the back that Mike Gundy is looking for – strong, elusive, and creative on the ground. For an offensive line that has struggled (and could do so again next season), Hill’s ability to create something out of nothing could make him an X-factor.

Kevin Henry – Linebacker

Given the fact that Seth Jacobs is retiring and Ryan Simmons is out of eligibility, there’s bound to be a wild card emerge at linebacker and there’s plenty of talent at the position. Henry was a former LSU commit and had the luxury of redshirting last season thanks to the depth going into the season. At 6-1, 220 pounds, Henry is an ideal size for a star linebacker and he has the speed and agility to make him a useful weapon in Spencer’s attack. Jordan Burton and Henry could team up to make a lethal 1-2 punch up the middle.

Marcus Keyes – Offensive Line

Keyes is another prospect who served a redshirt season in 2015. He was a late addition to last seasons recruiting class after decommitting from Louisiana Tech and committing to OSU before making a visit to Stillwater. He’s a 6-4, 280-pound monster from Port Allen, LA., who I think could get some run, or at least a chance, to contribute next season.

Madre Harper – Cornerback

Harper is an early enrollee who not only wants to contribute early – but will be needed to contribute early. Kevin Peterson is graduated, and Michael Hunter is gone…that leaves Ashton Lampkin as the most experienced cornerback along with Ramon Richards. Harper is likely going to get play either way due to lack of depth, but the Cowboys need him to step into a big role as a reserve or even a starter as a true freshman.
