QB Spencer Sanders Explains Decision to Commit to Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State got a pleasant surprise on the recruiting trail Saturday after their big win over Texas, earning a commitment from one of the top signal callers in the 2018 class in Denton Ryan QB Spencer Sanders.

To Spencer, however, the commitment did not come out of left field.

“I have been leaning towards them for a while now,” Sanders told Rivals. “I hadn’t said anything, but they really showed me what I wanted to see and showed me that they wanted me as part of this team.”

Of his experience being in town to watch OSU take down a ranked Texas team, Sanders said he wasn’t surprised, and the offense fits him like a glove.

“It was a great experience out here watching them beat a great Texas team,” he said. “But Oklahoma State is a great team too, and their offense really matches what we do at Ryan. It’s good to know that I’m walking into something that I am already familiar with; they do a lot of the same things and run a lot of the same concepts.

“I really think it’s a great school and the opportunity they have each year in the Big XII is a big part of that. I think it’s an underrated program. They have great athletes that beat top teams but they stay humble, show out, play football and do great things and that’s what it’s all about.”

Sanders is a true dual-threat quarterback, who had more than 1,000 yards passing and 300 yards on the ground in just 6 games last season (via Maxpreps.) He has already surpassed both those numbers through the same amount of games this year, to go with 24 total touchdowns.

Oklahoma State is getting a big-time playmaker in Spencer Sanders, and it’s pretty clear he chose OSU for all the right reasons. With Sanders in the fold, Oklahoma State can get a jump start and begin laying the foundation for the 2018 recruiting class early – something they haven’t been able to do in recent years.
