Raymond Taylor Needs to Play More (and He’s Going To)

Is Raymond Taylor going to start at running back on Saturday against TCU? Not according to the depth chart. But you can be certain he’s going to play more. And he should. Scoring against UTSA is one thing, doing it against Kansas is another but doing it in a shootout on the road against Texas Tech? That was nice.

And as good as Taylor has been on the field, it’s what he’s said that’s made fans fall in love with No. 30.

“I know that once I get the ball, I better turn it on, because if something happens other than a touchdown, I’m going to be disappointed in myself,” Taylor told the Oklahoman. “At any point they put me in the game it’s like, ‘OK, touchdown.’ In my mind, I just keep telling myself, ‘Touchdown, touchdown,’ knowing that it doesn’t take too much and I should be there by the end of the play. I see the end zone. And at that point, that’s the only thing that matters. Full effort.”

“I believe in no plays off,” he added. “At any part of the game, I can be a part of the play, whether it’s blocking or setting something up for other players.”

David Glidden offered up this eye-opening quote about Taylor to the Oklahoman as well. “Even against our starting defense, he makes those guys look silly sometimes. He’s probably the least favorite guy for them to tackle.”

Even though he’s not likely to start on Saturday, Gundy all but guaranteed the former walk-on would be in the thick of it when TCU comes to town.

“Yeah, we need to use him more. He’s earned his stripes for lack of a better term. We need to work him in. When he’s carrying the ball, he’s been effective. He’s shown toughness, durability, and he’s a guy we need to work into our offense more. He’s a success story for us. I mean, he works hard and never says a word.”

Gundy, always loving those dudes who never talk.
