RB Alex Fontenot Talks OSU Offer

Oklahoma State has been making it rain with running back scholarships the past few days. On Wednesday, they made two offers, one being to George Ranch, Texas standout Alex Fontenot.

I caught up with the 2017 standout after his offer, and he was absolutely ecstatic when the Cowboys came calling.

“I just couldn’t stop smiling for about 20 minutes,” Fontenot said after the offer came in.

Despite being a backup in 2015, he still achieved first team all district honors, totaling more than 1,400 yards and 21 touchdowns to go with a state championship. Not a terrible resume for a backup.

And he wasn’t sitting behind a slouch on the depth chart, either. George Ranch’s No. 1 back last season was Darius Anderson, a TCU signee who had 2,274 yards and 30 touchdowns on the year and garnered offers from Bama, Texas A&M, Cal, Texas and others throughout the process.

Fontenot can bring a little bit of everything to the backfield, and his quickness, specifically is something that jumps out at you on the film.

As to what he feels his biggest strength is? “Personally, my biggest strength is my elusiveness and how quick I am,” he said.

The Cowboys are the first Power Five offer for Fontenot, to go with an offer from Colorado State. It’s a big offer for him, but, admittedly, the recruiting process is still very early. And he’s going to take his time with his big decision. “I will more than likely commit before the season,” Fontenot said. “But for right now my recruitment process is just beginning.”
