The Realistic Chances of Landing Four-star RB Eno Benjamin

Published

on

Oklahoma State’s top running back target, Eno Benjamin, announced yesterday he’ll make his college decision on April 18, but not before he makes an unofficial visit to Stillwater later this week.

Benjamin, a four-star running back ranked by 247sports, has a top 10 that includes Iowa, OSU, Michigan, Baylor, Northwestern, SMU, Houston, Vanderbilt, Arizona, and Missouri. But Iowa, Michigan, and Oklahoma State appear to be the top 3 choices – with Iowa, the long time favorite, appearing to still be his leader.

Here’s a look at each of the top 3 schools commitment list and rosters, which could definitely make an impact on his final decision:

Oklahoma State

The Cowboys have zero commitments at running back in the 2017 class. They are also set to graduate Chris Carson, Rennie Childs, and Raymond Taylor, and could offer early playing time as a true freshman for a back of Benjamin’s caliber.

Michigan

The Wolverines have three commitments at running back in their 2017 recruiting class, including four-star O’Maury Samuels, and a pair of three-stars in Kurt Taylor and A.J. Dillon. They have four seniors/fifth year seniors on their active roster.

Iowa

Kirk Ferentz and Co. have just one commitment at running back which they landed on Monday in the 2017 recruiting cycle, but also boast a relatively young position group with only two seniors, two juniors, and a freshman and sophomore.

Mathematically, I would eliminate Michigan from the running. The Wolverines boast one of the deepest classes at running back already, and adding a fourth running back would be absurd.

As for Iowa, I still think it’s likely that’s where he ends up. Benjamin has long held that the Hawkeyes are the favorite, and I’m not sure any school can do enough to supplant the Hawkeyes. However, Oklahoma State is trailing closely behind. Marcus Arroyo and Co. have gained some ground on the recruiting front. If location is any factor, Oklahoma State certainly boasts the biggest advantage since Benjamin hails from Wylie, Texas, the home of the fighting Marcell Ateman’s. He’s expected to make a visit to Stillwater at some point this week, which I am sure will give us more clarity into his final decision. But I get the feeling it will come down to Iowa and Oklahoma State, and the Cowboys have a chance to make a big impression later on this week.
