Jawun Evans Enters NBA Draft, Will Sign With Agent

Jawun Evans has entered the NBA Draft, according to The Undefeated’s Marc Spears. We expected that. A new NBA rule says players can enter the draft and have until the middle of the summer to withdraw their names.

What we did not expect is for Evans to sign with an agent and confirm that he will in fact not be withdrawing his name later this summer. This news comes just a handful of days after Evans told Berry Tramel of The Oklahoman that he was leaning towards returning to Stillwater.

“I am going to enter the 2017 NBA Draft,” Evans said in a statement released to ESPN. “I want to Thank Everyone at OSU. This was a tough decision. OSU will forever be in my heart.”

We will likely never know whether this is fallout from Brad Underwood leaving or whether Evans was going to make this decision regardless. But now the reality is that a team that finished fifth in the Big 12 just lost two of its top three scorers with another one (Jeffrey Carroll) graduating this spring and potentially eligible to play elsewhere as a graduate transfer.

Gulp.

Evans finished his sophomore year averaging 19 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists per game. In three games in March those numbers jumped to an absurd 25-5-10. He is projected to be the No. 27 pick in the NBA Draft by Draft Express.
