Report: Tyrek Coger Died of Natural Causes
According to a report from the News on 6, the medical examiner says an enlarged heart was the cause of death of junior college transfer Tyrek Coger, who was set to play power forward for OSU this season.
During a team workout running stadium stairs in July, Coger collapsed and was taken to the hospital. He died hours later.
The final report from the Medical Examiners office said the cause of death, as originally reported, was cardiomegaly with left ventricular hypertrophy, or an enlarged heart. Hydrocephalus, a fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal column.
In its final report on his death, the ME’s office said the cause of death was cardiomegaly with left ventricular hypertrophy. It also said hydrocephalus, a condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerobrospinal fluid within the brain, was also a contributing factor in his death. In addition, there was no drugs or alcohol in his system.
