The Bedlam Rivalry Has Turned … Friendly?
There was a good story by Jake Trotter on ESPN today about the Bedlam off-the-field not rivalry. Austin Hays had a few additional things to say about that earlier this week.
“I know a lot of those guys, some of them I’m really good friends with,” said Hays. “One of them was my teammate in high school.”
Hays and Trevor Knight played high school ball together (I dug up this tweet from 2011).
Reagan TD: Trevor Knight 60-yard pass to Austin Hays. Reagan leads New Braunfels 35-7, 4:34, 3rd.

Hays assured everyone they aren’t chatting football, but they do have a big group text (like all of us).
“We don’t talk about football too much,” said Hays. “We normally talk about what concert we’re going to, where we’re going to go for spring break or who our partner is going to be for the golf scramble. Our spring break trip with the OU guys has changed our relationship with them. We became really close and are in a group text most of the time.”
Personally, I love this. OU and OSU being good at football at the same time is awesome and college kids doing college kids things is fine by me. As long as we don’t see Daxx Garman in all black on OU’s sideline on Saturday this weekend feeding Mike Stoops signals, then who cares.
