Trevor Knight is Transferring From OU (Probably)

So … this is sort of weird.

The “Trevor Knight is transferring” news was leaked on Thursday and then OU went full-court press on Friday to confirm and get ahead of the story (kind of). Somewhat surprisingly, they granted him a full release. He can apparently even transfer to a Big 12 school (even though he still might not transfer at all).

Both Stoops and Knight indicated that a transfer is not a forgone conclusion for the OU captain, and that Knight would remain with the Sooners at least through the College Football Playoff.

“Trevor has been unbelievable during his time as a Sooner,” said Bob Stoops. “I can’t say enough about him and what he’s meant to our program. He will graduate this month and has told us that he would like to investigate the possibility of finishing his career elsewhere. We understand him wanting to explore his options and will be happy for him if he’s able to find a good fit.”

Knight was equally appreciative.

“My decision to reach out and communicate with other potential programs is something I feel I must do in order to see if there is a perfect fit for my senior season. I can promise you that no one is more proud to be a Sooner than I am, and in no way shape or form will this take away from my excitement and commitment heading into the championship season.

“I am truly touched by the support from both Coach Stoops and Coach (Lincoln) Riley, as well as all of Sooner Nation during this time. Enough about me. Let’s go beat the Tigers. Boomer!”

According to SoonerScoop, Knight has spoken with Kansas State, Georgia, Oregon and SMU. Also, Stoops apparently won’t keep him from moving inside the Big 12 (which is crazy). By the way, how much of a K-State QB is he? He’d be perfect there.

I know Knight is sort of bad at non-bowl football, but it would be the heel turn of all heel turns to flip to Stillwater with his (good buddy?) Mason Rudolph, wouldn’t it? We don’t really have room for it, but I want to believe Mike Gundy is pounding down his door right now trying to make it happen. He does like those two-QB systems.

I’M JUST SAYING!
