Two 4-Star Quarterbacks Make Unofficial Visits to Oklahoma State

Even with spring camp in full swing and their minds fixed on developing depth charts for this fall, Mike Gundy and Co. always have one eye on the recruiting trail. This past weekend the coaching staff hosted a group of recruits for unofficial visits. As we noted in The Reload on Monday, there were a number of big-time visitors.

Among those visiting OSU’s campus were a couple of 2019 quarterback prospects, one of whom has held an offer from the Cowboys for nearly a year in Grant Gunnell.

According to our interview with Gunnell from last year, Mike Yurcich extended an offer to the towering QB prior to his sophomore season. The contact was made through his head coach at St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas.

“The offensive coordinator [Mike Yurcich] came up to school and told my head coach they were offering me, then my coach told me,” Gunnell told Pistols Firing. “I was super pumped when I heard the news and I called my parents and let them know about it!”

Oklahoma State was just the second school to offer the then 6-5, 203-pound play caller. But it’s a year later and a lot has changed. Not only has he already filled in to over 200 pounds heading into his junior year, he set the world on fire with his sophomore numbers in 2016.

Gunnell exploded for 4,970 passing yards and 71 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions in 2016, per 247Sports. He also completed a cool 70 percent of his pass attempts. Ridiculous.

No longer flying under the radar, the four-star pro style QB currently holds more FBS offers than any other player in his class, including from the likes of Texas A&M, Florida State and LSU.

“Coach Yurcich (OSU) says if I were to commit there, he’d be shutting everything down. I’m the only guy he wants. That’s what every school has said,” Gunnell told Scout.

Gunnell should whittle down his list of top schools soon and OSU hopes their early offer will save them a spot.

The other quarterback to visit this weekend was Grant Tisdale, a 2019 recruit from Allen, Texas.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound high school sophomore isn’t as big of a name as the other visiting Grant but does have offers from Texas Tech and Mississippi State, among others. He’s more of a dual-threat prospect who can throw a pretty decent ball, too.

Last month at The Opening, Tisdale put up some impressive numbers. According to Scout, who has Tisdale as a four-star prospect, he ran a 4.70 40-yard dash, completed a 4.18 shuttle and showed off a 35.6-inch vertical leap.

It’s still early for Tisdale (and Gunnell for that matter). We’ll learn a lot more about both going forward but don’t be surprised if Tisdale’s star continues to rise.
