Tyrek Coger Goes In-Depth on his commitment

Former Cape Fear Community College forward Tyrek Coger, who was recently forced to open his recruitment up after failing to meet SEC transfer requirements, has committed to Oklahoma State.

After opening his recruitment up and reportedly receiving more than 25 scholarship offers, Coger narrowed his choices down to three: Charlotte, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State.

He originally planned to take all three visits. But after his first to Stillwater, it was all he needed to make his college choice.

“It was great my man,” Coger said of his visit in a phone interview. “The coaches and Coach Underwood have a really great relationship with coach AK and Coach Mike. They’re all great guys. I love the OSU fan base. They showed me nothing but love. Everything was amazing really, just the facilities, the stadium, and the visit. Everything was more than I expected.”

Coger is a dynamic talent who can contribute in more than one way – and could do so early in his career. As a sophomore for Cape Fear last season, he displayed his versatility and ability to contribute averaging more than 12 points and 8 rebounds per game.

And as for plans to utilize him in the program, Coger says that Underwood also laid out a vision for the 6-9, 250-lb. post. “They think I can be a big impact at the 4 to rebound, pass, score — basically a threat in the back court. With the great guards we have, we have a really good chance to make a big run in the tournament.”
