Uniform Review: Chrome Helmets Look Sharp Against Longhorns

Published

on

Oklahoma State wore Black-White-Black Orange Chrome-White-Black against Texas, and it was easily one of the best looks the Cowboys could have worn against the other orange team. I know there are a few fans out there that don’t like the tri-color look, and there are others who don’t like the orange chrome Pete, but what’s not to love about the concept of this combo? Orange, white, and black is all there, and this combo shouts, “Go Pokes!”

Leading up to the game, a lot of people commented on the prediction post and they were certain OSU would wear Icy Pete. I like that Oklahoma State wore the chrome orange against Texas instead of the Icy Pete because we need to wear America’s Brightest Orange against Texas every chance we get. Also, if you can avoid wearing the same helmet color as your opponent, you should.

Oklahoma State is now 3-1 in the Orange Chrome (1-1 vs. Texas). I did find it interesting that this was essentially the same combo that we wore against Texas last season but with the away jersey. I wonder if they knew it would be 150 degrees on the turf when they packed up the black pants.

The equipment staff did a great job of getting the PITT decals on the helmets for this game. I’m glad they were able to honor him in such a quick turnaround. I believe we will be seeing the sticker on every OSU helmet for the rest of the year. I think it would be interesting to see the PITT sticker change to match the uniform combo, but I’m also a fan of the simple black and orange look.

This combo will make you reevaluate your uniform rankings list. While it was one of the better looks, I don’t think this quite tops the Cactus Bowl combo of Orange Chrome-Black-Orange. Overall, it looks better in my mind after the win.
