Watch: Mike Boynton Talks About Being Hired as OSU’s Head Basketball Coach
This afternoon Mike Boynton was named the 20th head basketball coach at Oklahoma State. He spoke with Dave Hunziker shortly after being hired about his new gig.
“I’ve always been a point guard,” said Boynton. “I’ve always been a leader. Those are qualities it takes to be successful. What’s helped me over the course of my career is I’ve worked for really good people. I’ve played for really good coaches. And I’ve been able to devise a plan that I think will be really successful at Oklahoma State University.
“I think my vision is going to give us a chance to be really, really good.”
He also noted that OSU is going to be defense first (which obviously delights me).
In basketball… good offense (mostly about players) is smoke and mirrors. When it really matters, If you dont guard… you dont win. PERIOD

“We’re a defensive first program,” said Boynton. “We will be. We’ll continue to recruit that way. We’ll recruit guys who can help us be really good defensively. That means having length. Having athleticism. Starting on the perimeter and throughout your roster. We want to play fast, but that will start on the defensive end.”
Check out the full interview with Hunziker.
