Brad Boynton, Jr.

Continuity has some possible pros:

For starters, Boynton will run the same system that the Cowboys used this past season. He spent three seasons at Stephen F. Austin with Brad Underwood, then was on his OSU staff, and Boynton is all in on the hard-charging mentality. He wants to push the tempo on offense and hound the opponent on defense. He even stats games to determine how many deflections his guys get. He wants them in the passing lanes. He wants turnovers and steals.

So, that aggressive style that Cowboy fans liked this season? It isn’t going anywhere. [NewsOK]

After Underwood (in general) and a potential return of Jawun, the third thing previously most intriguing for next season was a staunch defensive team. A couple of defensive oriented players at the shooting guard and center spots would give a distinctly different feel: think non-conference Cowboys year round. Turnovers forced everywhere.

Boynton coming out and saying it’s what he wants sort of rekindles that dream of suffocating perimeter defense. If you’re like me (trying to find positives to stare at), pressure defense with a more appropriate roster is a good thought.

Beastly Brailford

Promising things coming out about another Booker T. Washington grad in spring ball.

(Gundy) remembers what a force Brailford was in the Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss, the best thing the Cowboys had going up front and in practice on Friday, Brailford was nearly impossible to block. He has really become stronger, has his quickness, and is enthusiastic about playing, hungry to make up for lost time and inactivity.

“There’s not a lot of guys (here), we don’t get a number of guys as athletic as he is and can play his position,” Gundy said. “If he stays healthy and plays the way he should he can have more of an impact than anybody we have on the field.” [GoPokes-$$$]

After sitting out a year from injury, Brailford, a former Under Armor All-American is up to 250 pounds (arrived at 220) and is apparently hungry for more. Pedigreed dudes are semi-rare in Stillwater, what this guy does on the edge will be a must see in the fall.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Cowboy Baseball saw TCU rally again, losing 6-5 on Saturday night….Oregon comfortably beat KU in Kansas City last night….Florida’s elite eight bound coach that followed Billy Donovan is a stud….Indiana hired Archie Miller, a once-dream candidate for the Pokes….Cowgirl Softball won a close one against UT ….Baylor swiped the women’s equestrian crown from the Cowgirls

Lawrence PD coming hard after the Jayhawks.

Garrett Gilbert (left Texas because he couldn’t play) got picked up by an NFL team. What a world.
