Five-star TE Isaac Nauta Leaves OSU from Top 3, Other Options at TE

on

Five-star tight end Isaac Nauta, the nations No. 1 ranked prospect at the postion, announced his final three schools Sunday which did not include the Cowboys.

Nauta made an official visit to Stillwater for Bedlam, but ultimately has decided to move on, naming Alabama, Michigan, and Georgia among his final grouping. Nauta would have been a welcome addition, obviously, but the Cowboys still have other options at tight end (cowboy back), and the recent offers at the position hint that the coaching staff was already aware of Nauta’s decision.

Tony Poljan, 6-7, 230-pounds

Poljan is a monster athlete from Lansing, Michigan who was named the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year in 2015. Poljan is a freak athlete who played quarterback for Lansing Catholic. Given that the Cowboys have offered Keondre Wudtee at quarterback, Poljan would be an incredible add for the Cowboys. With his frame and size, he would likely be at or above the weight of All Big-12 tight end Blake Jarwin, who the Cowboys relied on more in the passing game this season.

Darel Middleton, 6-6, 250-pounds

Middleton is a monster athlete who has played basketball and football, both at tight end and defensive end. Middleton has his choice of where to play for the Cowboys but if I could hand pick him, he’s one athlete that would be a nice recruit to put into the Cowboy back position. His 250-pound frame would be a defensive nightmare for the opposition both in the blocking game and in the passing game. Can you imagine lining this guy up in the backfield to block as a fullback?

Irvin Smith, 6-4, 230-pounds

Smith is a long-time Texas A&M commit, but with all the recent QB turmoil in College Station, perhaps he could turn his attention elsewhere, although the Cowboys aren’t alone in their pursuit. He also has offers from Alabama, Texas, and others. Smith is a New Orleans native as well, which could potentially help given the Cowboys bowl game will be in his hometown.
