The Reload: OSU Makes Cut for Two, Chuba Hubbard Finds Right Fit, and More

The Reload is PFB’s recruiting recap, which will catch you up to speed on events surrounding Oklahoma State recruiting with an ear to the ground on what to expect in the near future.

Oklahoma State makes top 10 for two standout skill players

The first announcement came from wide receiver Cedarian Lamb, a four-star receiver from Richmond, Texas. Lamb committed to the Oklahoma Sooners back in December, but recently re-opened his recruitment. Here’s the full list of schools he’s considering which he posted to twitter:

At the moment, I would probably consider OU and LSU to be two of the big players in Lamb’s recruitment. But the Cowboys have long been in on Lamb with ace recruiter Marcus Arroyo drawing the big card. The need for another receiver alongside Tylan Wallace in the 2017 class still remains. So the possibility of OSU swooping in is still there, and Lamb would certainly be an excellent complement to Wallace.

The second prospect who named OSU in his top 10 is 2017 running back Travis Etienne Jr., a three-star back from Jennings, LA.

The Cowboys have two commitments in the 2017 class at running back in four-star Canadian Chuba Hubbard and Fitzgerald, GA prospect JD King. But Marcus Arroyo is out for blood — and Etienne would certainly cap an incredible haul at running back.

Etienne won the “fastest man” competition at The Opening regional competition in April that took place in NOLA. He’s a quick, change of pace back with a 4.38 40-time and at 5-11, 200-lbs., he could be another instant impact player as a freshman in 2017. He has offers from Alabama, who he has named as his favorite, along with Mississippi State, Arkansas, Mizzou, Tennessee, and a slew of others.

2018 twins planning unofficial visit to Stillwater

Of all the trends I would have projected with Mike Gundy and his recruiting, one of the least likely guesses I would make is that Gundy could sign twins in three straight recruiting classes. But they are setting themselves up in a position to do just that. In the 2016 class, they signed defensive end/linebackers Cade and Zach Smith, Gundy has already gained verbal commitments from South Hills, Texas twins Tylan and Tracin Wallace, and for 2018 two twins – Joshua and Jordan Moore are eyeing OSU. Jordan is a 2018 athlete and Joshua is a receiver. The two play at Yoakum High in Yoakum Tx.

OSU hunting for Texas A&M Commit, Aggies Returning Favor

Oklahoma State made a move on 2017 Texas A&M commit Devin Morris, officially extending a scholarship over the weekend which he announced on twitter. Morris is listed at receiver but at 6-foot, could be making the switch to cornerback (where A&M had him slotted) at the next level. He’s a big time talent from Caldwell, Texas.

On the other hand, the Cowboys long-time offensive line commitment Adrian Wolford from Meeker, Okla., may be wavering on his verbal pledge to the Cowboys. Wolford made an unofficial visit to College Station over the weekend, and told Texags.com that the trip was “amazing,” adding that “Everything was big, everything was real big. It was just a whole different level in the SEC.”

In other words, it may be time to think about a backup plan in regards to Wolford, who has already picked up an offer from Texas A&M.

Jason McEndoo back in Fitzgerald, GA

Oklahoma State has already struck gold in Fitzgerald in the 2017 class in running back JD King. And the Cowboys have their eyes on another prospect — tight end Lecitus Smith.

Smith is a 6-4, 255-pound prospect with his most notable offers coming from Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, NC State, and Tulane. Perhaps the connection with his teammate and an opportunity to play with King could play into the Cowboys chances to land a big-time cowboy back from Georgia. Smith has soft hands for a big man his size, but where he truly shines is in blocking support. He’s a monster blocker (who could probably play offensive guard) who has excellent technique and easily overpowers players using his strength.

Chuba Hubbard Decision Impacted by OSU Atmosphere and Coaches

Marcus Arroyo nabbed a commitment from Canadian speedster Chuba Hubbard last week, and part of the reason he chose the Cowboys had to do with his involvement in the future of the track program. Here’s what he told Sherwood Park News:

Most schools said that I could do both track and football, but Oklahoma State had a real plan for me in track. I just liked the feeling of it.

He added: “It felt right [committing to OSU]. I prayed and talked to my parents about it and it felt like the right place for me. Amen Ogbongbemiga (a linebacker from Calgary) is already at OSU and he’s a good friend of mine. I liked the atmosphere there and the coaches are great. I will be able to do both track and football, which I was glad about. It is the right place to make my dreams come true.”
