The Reload: Underwood Offers Two Big Men and Rising Wing

The Reload is PFB’s recruiting recap, which will get you up to speed on everything you need to know about Oklahoma State recruiting, with an ear to the ground on what to expect in the future.

This is the basketball edition of today’s Reload. Due to the sheer amount of information, we’ve broke it into two posts. You can read the football edition here.

Let’s get to business.

Underwood offers 2017 Power Forward

The new head man hasn’t been shy about chasing top talent. And an offer to 2017 big man RaiQuan Gray last week stays in line with his approach since taking over the helm earlier this year.

The 6-foot-8 Gray is a highly touted big man from Fort Lauderdale with offers from Baylor, USC, West Virginia, and OSU in the month of May alone. Gray has a stout build listed at 235-pounds on 247sports.com, and is a tough, physical grinder on defense who has a knack for finding the ball.

Defensively he doesn’t appear to be a dominant rim protector, but on offense is where he excels. Not only can he find his way around the rim nicely, he already has a very solid mid-range game and has the ability to stretch the floor with three-point range that appears to look pretty smooth on film (No. 41). He is rated as a four-star player by 247sports.

2018 Center Moses Brown Extended Scholarship

Brown is a junior prospect from playing in New York after growing up in Jamaica. Mike Boynton, an Underwood staffer, is a native of New York and has ties in the area, so it appears Brown could be Boynton’s guy. Brown is a 6-11, 210-pound player rated as a four-star prospect by 247sports. He has offers from Maryland, Iona, Minnesota, St. Johns, St. Peters, and now OSU.

Brown has only been playing competitive basketball since age 13, so he’s undoubtedly raw. But scouts and coaches are high on his upside. And at 6-11, it’s a no-brainer to take a chance on the kid.

His AAU coach, Chris Alesi, had this to say about Brown to the NY Post: “By this time next year, I think he’s a top 25 player in the country [in his class].”

Through 12 games on the Under Armour Hoops Summer Circuit, Brown is averaging 6.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.

“As far as me picking a school, I want to go to a school that is going to develop me for the next level,” Brown told Scout earlier this week. “A school that is going to get me stronger and help me work on my body so I’ll be ready to enter the Draft right away.”

Surprisingly, there’s very little film on the star in the making. But here’s a quick glimpse at just his sheer length and athleticism in a small clip:

2019 Forward Christian Brown Offered by OSU

Brown is the first wing offer in the 2019 class by Underwood and company. The 6-foot-7 prospect from Columbia, SC, has offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Clemson and OSU, with more likely coming soon.  Brown is incredibly athletic who plays the game like street ball, really fast and loose with a lot of fluidity in his game. He’s not shy to take it to the rack and thrives on finishing with contact.

He’s still growing into his frame but for a 6-foot-7 freshman, he’s not at all awkward on the court. He can handle the ball relatively well, and his defensive prowess appears to be one of his best traits.

He doesn’t have a well developed outside game, at least on film, but with three years left in high school that’s certainly one area he could improve before the next level. Regardless, Brown is a big-time prospect already gaining a lot of attention in recruiting circles. With good reason.
