An Update on The Hoops Recruiting Trail: A New Offer and Options at Point Guard

Published

on

Oklahoma State and Brad Underwood haven’t had much movement since the commitment of four-star guard Zach Dawson earlier this year. However there’s been a lot of behind the scenes action with new offers, visits, and more. Here’s an update with the most recent recruiting activity you need to catch up as the recruiting period starts this week on September 9 and runs through November 6.

New Offer to 2017 Power Forward

Oklahoma State’s lone commitment in the Underwood era comes from Zach Dawson of Florida, and again OSU is dipping back into Florida to try their luck with 2017 power forward prospect Sean Mobley. Mobley is a 6-foot-9 prospect from Montverde, Florida, who plays for Montverde Academy. According to the 247sports crystal ball predictions, analysts currently project him to commit to West Virginia, where he will make an official visit this coming weekend.

Other offers for Mobley include VCU, Dayton, NC State, and now OSU. His other official visits include to VCU on September 23, and Dayton on October 14. With the Pokes now in the mix, they’ll likely make their case to try and grab one of his final official visits before the season comes to a close.

Mobley is ranked as a high three-star prospect by 247sports and four-star power forward by ESPN. Mobley  is also the teammate of junior point guard Anfernee Simmons, who was offered by OSU earlier this year.

Also, he has his own website: http://www.seanmobley.com/

Point guard target commits elsewhere

2019 OSU target Jordyn Adams of Silsbee, Texas, announced this week he is taking his talents to Waco and joining the Baylor Bears (in three years!).

As far as point guards in the current (2017) cycle, OSU has Zach Dawson in the fold, who may be a combo guard to fill the two spot. At the moment, OSU is still in the mix for two five-star point guards: Norman North’s Trae Young and Collin Sexton, both who visited Stillwater in the spring.

Young will make his decision likely before the end of the year, which could set off a domino effect with other point guards. Oklahoma State will likely know their fate soon and, in the meantime, will continue to pursue Sexton and also New York product Jose Alvarado, whom OSU extended an offer to in April. Recruiting is slow now, but as the season gets closer I expect more action on the hoops trail for Underwood and his staff whose hard work should pay big dividends this fall.
